چکیده
6 Process of development The agent framework was developed between February and May 2007, as part of the author’s Masters thesis. 7 Resources used • Nuance RealSpeak Solo for TTS speech generation, http://www.nuance.com/realspeak/solo • Charamel CharaVirld2 character environment, and CharaSpy debugger, http://www.charamel.de • Jess: the Java Expert System Shell, http://herzberg.ca.sandia.gov/jess • ALMA: A Layered Model of Affect, http://www.dfki.de/~gebhard/alma.html • Eclipse development environment for Java, http://www.eclipse.org 8 Resources required The agent framework was developed and tested on two PCs, both with a Pentium 4 CPU (3.2 GHz), 2 GB of RAM, and a NVidia GeForce 6800 Ultra graphics card with 256 Mb onboard memory. One of the PCS runs Windows XP Professional SP2, and the other runs SuSE Linux 9.2. In addition, the Charamel software requires a parallel port hardware lock.

ERIC: a generic rule-based framework for an affective embodied commentary agent
We present ERIC, an affective embodied agent for realtime commentary in many domains. The underlying architecture is rulebased, generic, and lightweight – based on Java/Jess modules. Apart from reasoning about dynamically changing events, the system can produce coherent natural language and non-verbal behaviour, based on a layered model of affect (personality, mood, emotion). We show how reason...
متن کاملRealtime generation of multimodal affective sports commentary for embodied agents
Autonomous, graphically embodied agents are a versatile platform for information presentation and user interaction. This thesis presents ERIC, a homogeneous agent framework that can be configured to provide real-time running commentary on a dynamic environment of many and frequent events. We have focused on knowledge reasoning with a world model, generating and expressing affect, and generating...
متن کاملEmbodied Presentation Teams: A plan-based approach for affective sports commentary in real-time
Virtual agents are essential representatives of multimodal user interfaces. This thesis presents the IVAN system (Intelligent Interactive Virtual Agent Narrators) that generates affective commentary on a tennis game that is given as an annotated video in real-time. The system employs two distinguishable virtual agents that have different roles (TV commentator, expert), personality profiles, and...
متن کاملIVAN - Intelligent Interactive Virtual Agent Narrators
Multimodal user interfaces are becoming more and more important in humann machine communication. Essential representatives of such interfaces are virtual agents that aim to act like humans in the way they employ gestures, facial expression, posture and prosody to convey their emotions in face-to-face communication. Furthermore, if we employ a presentation team [1] to convey facts, the performan...
متن کاملAgents and Affect: Why Embodied Agents Need Affective Systems
This paper discusses why intelligent embodied agents – concentrating on the case of graphically-embodied agents – require affective systems. It discusses the risks involved in attempting to produce naturalistic expressive behaviour, and examines the specific case of facial expression generation. It considers the approach taken by the EU Framework 5 project VICTEC to facial expressions and then ...
